Our inaugural Bootle Dementia Disco was a magnificent hit! We were thrilled to welcome 48 attendees for an evening filled with music, dancing, and fantastic community spirit.
The dance floor was filled with guests from care home residents, dedicated staff, multi-generational families, individual members, and a brilliant team of volunteers. A massive thank you goes out to our wonderful lead volunteers Kenny and Louise and to DJ Christian and all our helpers for keeping the energy high and making the night possible.

A Fresh Look for Stockport Pride
We were thrilled to debut a shiny new look for our logo! Featuring a vibrant rainbow representing the LGBTQ+, Queer, and People of Colour flags, the updated design reflects our ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity in all its forms.
On Sunday 26th July, myself and Nick Shaw proudly represented Dementia Disco CIO at Stockport Pride 2026. Joining a parade filled with music, singing, and incredible community spirit, not even the wet weather could dampen the mood.

A Joyous Success: Manchester’s First LGBTQ+ Dementia Disco
This past Manchester Pride weekend marked a truly special milestone for our community. On Sunday 30th August, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Manchester Art Gallery opened its doors for our very first LGBTQ+ Dementia Disco, a unique, fully accessible celebration created in partnership with the Pride in Ageing team at LGBT Foundation and the gallery team.
We were thrilled to welcome 64 attendees of all ages into a warm, inclusive, and music-filled environment tailored specifically for people living with dementia, their carers, and allies.
Dancing, Refreshments, and Disco Props The atmosphere in the room was vibrant from the moment the doors opened. Guests enjoyed light refreshments, including mocktails complete with fun accessories to decorate bright rainbow cups. The rainbow selfie stand station was a massive hit, packed with disco accessories that sparked plenty of laughs and photos.
What made the afternoon truly magical was the spirit of intergenerational unity. We saw older community members hitting the dancefloor alongside young children, while younger LGBTQ+ people stepped up to support and dance with their elders.
The Line-up Our fantastic DJs kept the energy flowing and the dancefloor moving:
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: DJ Gypsy (ALL FM) kicking off the afternoon with crowd favourites.
3:00 PM – 3:05 PM: A warm welcome from the Dementia Disco team.
3:05 PM – 3:20 PM: A lively set from the Derek Jarman Pocket Park DJs.
3:20 PM – 4:00 PM: DJ Tony Openshaw (ALL FM) closing out the event on a high note.
Looking to the Future Events like this do not happen without dedicated collaborators. A huge thank you goes to Meg Parnell from Manchester Art Gallery and Lawrie Roberts from LGBT Foundation for their vision, passion, and hard work in bringing this project to life.
We hope this launch is only the start of the journey. Our goal is to secure funding and support to establish regular LGBTQ+ Dementia Discos across both Manchester and Stockport, ensuring our older LGBTQ+ community has a safe, joyous, and regular space to connect through music.
